Alan will discuss how and why arts groups in the UK and overseas are working to engage audiences and visitors before, during and after arts programmes.

Come prepared to share what engagement practices are working for your organisation, and to consider what new or different engagement activities will help to create more meaningful and more fulfilling experiences.

This will be followed by a forum on Cultural Vitality and Civic Engagement. Alan is leading several efforts in the US to design and implement better ways of assessing cultural participation at the community level.

This session will cover new frameworks for thinking about cultural participation from a policy perspective, and new approaches to tracking patterns of engagement that can lead to better policy decisions and higher levels of public participation and community benefits.
